Kelly Alley is located between Fraser and Allen Streets, off Beaver Avenue in downtown State College. Turn left between Saint's Cafe and Panera, and find us on the alley side of the Fraser Street Parking garage.
Valerie is the Director of Movement Arts Studio. She also teaches the Discovery and Exploration creative modern dance classes, Beginning Children’s Ballet and Pilates for adults. She holds a BPh in Dance from Penn State University and performed with Orchesis and The Contemporary Dance Company. She taught dance formerly at the Central Pennsylvania Dance Workshop under the direction of LaRue Allen and more recently at Strawberry Hill Center for Creative Arts under the direction of Betty Jane Dittmar. She has been an assistant teacher at St. Andrew’s Preschool since 1992, and has used her experience with preschool-aged children to develop the program of developmentally age-appropriate dance at Movement Arts Studio. She is certified in Pilates matwork and Reformer throught PHI Pilates.
Christine is a Holistic Health Educator and has trained in the Iyengar and Kundalini styles of Yoga and has a very soft spot for Chakra Yoga. She has been teaching Yoga since 1998. Her style of teaching comes from her daily practice and study of Yoga. Classes are taught to meet the needs of the students. Students are encouraged and supported in developing their own practice. She is also a practitioner of Jin Shin Jyutsu and an instructor of Jin Shin Jyutsu Self-Help.
Liz is currently pursuing a degree in Biology at Penn State. She discovered Pilates while rehabbing a high school sports injury. After training for two years, she went on to complete the Comprehensive Teacher Training Program at Pilates and More in Wayne, PA. Since then she has used an athletic approach of teaching Pilates to everyone from the beginner to the collegiate athlete.
Bonnie is a graduate of Penn State with a BS in Nursing. She has a background in dance as a performing member of the Contemporary Dance Company and Pennsylvania Dance Theater. She is certified to teach Pilates by the Powerhouse Pilates Institute.
A former social worker and a mother of 3, Melissa Sherbondy stumbled upon Pilates while sharpening her skills as an ACE certified group fitness instructor. She developed a keen interest in this method of excercise and it has become her niche. She is certified in Primary and Advanced Pilates, including small props, through Fitour. She is also trained on the Pilates Reformer through PHI Pilates in Pittsburgh. Other certifications she holds include indoor cycling, kickboxing and pre/postnatal fitness.
Shannon Bishop is a teacher and performer of Middle Eastern dance, with a focus in Improvisational Tribal Style Belly Dance. She holds several important certifications, including the Fat Chance Belly Dance General Skills certification, Paulette Rees-Denis’ Collective Soul Level One certification, and the Suhaila Salimpour Level One certification. Shannon is Creative Director of Pepper Lotus Tribal dance troupe, and has performed in many Middle Eastern dance shows, the People’s Choice Festival, the May Fest of Huntingdon and the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, as well as monthly engagements at Kaarma Indian restaurant.
Sue Lembeck-Edens is a graduate of Penn State University, Goucher College, and the Baltimore School of Massage. She became a registered Dance/Movement Therapist in 1988 and a Nationally Certified Massage Therapist in 1996. Sue continues to incorporate new modalities into her work and in 2004 she became a Certified Jin Shin Jyutsu practitioner, in 2006 a Certified Zero Balancer, and in 2008 a Certified Pilates instructor. Sue received her Pilates certification training at Pilates and More in Wayne, PA. Sue currently teaches Anatomy and Physiology, Ethics, Professional Development and Movement at the Mt. Nittany Institute of Natural Health, Pilates Fundamentals at the Movement Arts Studio and holds a private massage practice in State College, PA.
Caitlin Osborne is an Instructor of Dance at Penn State Altoona, where she teaches ballet and modern dance. She is a former member of Allied Motion Dance Company. You may know Caitlin through her extensive acting and choreography experiences with State College Community Theater, The Next Stage and Bellefonte Area High School.
